In April 2019, AIGA Miami partnered up with The Wolfsonian-FIU and the Florida Department of Health of Miami-Date County and invited designers to partake in a design challenge to re-imagine vintage HIV/AIDS awareness posters to tackle an issue affecting Greater Miami: South Florida's HIV/AIDS crisis. The purpose of the challenge was to start compassionate conversation, inspire community engagement, and combat stigma through design built around empathy for a local (as well as a worldwide) health concern.

Out of the 4 posters created for the design challenge (see below), this poster was ultimately chosen for submission and earned a place among the finalists in the PosterFest: Design for Good 2019 Juried Exhibition at The Wolfsonian, Miami.

Title: Life Begins with Hope

The poster aims to educate the public on the topic of mother-to-child transmission of HIV, a subject that the designer feels deserves an increased and special awareness. It is easy to assume that an HIV-positive mother carrying a child will automatically pass on the virus to her child. Amazingly however, with the right treatment the risk of mother-to-child transmission can be reduced to less than one percent.
